Women journalists representing country’s well-known media agencies attended the event.
Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, Chair of ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee, PhD in Arts welcomed the media representatives and expressed her pleasure to see them in the museum.
Shirin Melikova noted that this meeting was the first media tour in the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum’s history. She recalled that the opening of a new museum building with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in 2014 was a very important event in this cultural center’s life. “Thanks to the enormous efforts of Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, on November 10, 2010, the Azerbaijani Carpet Art was included into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage,” the museum director added.
Speaking about the care and attention of our state, Shirin Melikova provided brief information about the activity of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the work done here. She noted that in 2017, the museum celebrated its 50th anniversary through a series of international and national events were organized.
Shirin Melikova stressed that the museum collection, which reflects the main artistic directions of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan, holds unique examples of flat-woven and pile carpets that are distinguished by beauty, elegance and high artistic features. She noted that valuable and rare Azerbaijani carpets, purchased from abroad, occupy a special place in the museum collection. The museum director also added that work in this direction will be continued. Congratulating women journalists on the upcoming International Women’s Day, Shirin Melikova thanked them for their work in highlighting the museum’s activities in the media.
Then Zeynab Kazimova, Museum Press Secretary provided an excursion. Сarpets, embroidery, jewelry, copper utensils, and various exhibits found during archeological excavations were demonstrated to the journalist during the tour by professional museum guides. Also detailed information about other museum exhibits and each carpet, was given. Media representatives got acquainted with the museum history and its activities.
At the end of the media tour, the women journalists were presented with interesting gifts from the museum. In addition, children of media representatives joined the “Mother’s and Children’s Day” program, dedicated to the International Women’s Day and prepared by Children’s Museum Department.
