Today is the birthday of Latif Karimov, the outstanding Azerbaijani scientist, author of the fundamental three-volume work Azerbaijan Carpet, People's Artist of Azerbaijan. He of all people knew the national and artistic features and techniques of our carpets. Having vast knowledge in the field of decorative and applied art, Latif Karimov played a huge role in the world recognition of Azerbaijani carpets, revival, development, and enrichment of folk traditions. On his initiative in 1967, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, the first museum in the world of its kind was established.

Afshan, Gonagkend, Lachak-Turunj, Shusha, Goygol, Karabakh, Butali, Shabi-Hijran, Ferdowsi, Samad Vurgun, Vagif, Fuzuli, Nasimi, Ajami, and many other carpets, woven on the basis of his sketches, are priceless examples of Azerbaijani carpet art.
