Visit Carpetland Festival at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum

Yesterday, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum concluded the two-day festival full of joy, fun, and excitement, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of its Children Department.

Opening the festival, Dr. Shirin Melikova, museum director, Honored Culture Worker mentioned that the museum’s Children Department, first in the museum field of Azerbaijan carries out a huge work in the educational sphere.

“Museum’s aim is to get our children closer to our national values, heritage, and culture. This work is now producing results,” Dr. Melikova said. She added that the museum is delighted that its space is becoming a favorite place for children, and their number is growing every year.

More than three hundred children attended the opening ceremony of the festival. The dance group of the Child Development Center No 3, the group of children’s choral studio Nur at Uzeyir Hajibeyli House Museum, members of the Children’s Theater Chicheyim, and the dance group Azeri Injileri performed here and aroused great interest among the audience. After, members of the Children Department’s painting and carpet weaving classes presented their works at the exhibition.

Kamala Iskandarova, a representative of the Embassy Egypt in Baku, read the marvelous Egyptian fairytales to children. Kids attended various masterclasses to create souvenir carpets, soft toys, New Year cards, and weave shadda. Museum organized an entertaining quiz, quest, puppet plays Fairytales of Melikmammad, and Shangulyum, Shungulyum, Mangulum, as well as a spectacle Carpet Talk.

The festival participants got a chance to meet the architect Elchin Aliyev, author of the kid’s book Magical Monuments of Azerbaijan, and the artist Irina Eldarova, illustrations’ author of the kid’s book On the Beach by Lala Malik. Here young visitors received gifts from the authors. After, children attended art therapy class by Zaira Nadirashvili, an expert at the Georgian National Gestalt Institute, and musical therapy by Melek Velizade, art director of the children’s choral studio Nur.

The second day of the festival was marked by a colorful carnival, the performance of the children’s dance group of Russian Cultural Center in Baku, the awarding ceremony of the best costumes, and the Bumblebee Transformers show.

Embassies of Egypt, Hungary, Iran, and the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Baku, the Gulsam Public Union for the Rehabilitation of Disabled People, and the museum’s Children Department arranged a charity bazaar to raise money for children in need.
