Yaloylutepe-type vessel with a spout
Did you know that the museum preserves the Yaloylutepe-type vessel, a sample of the Albanian period?
Ancient Yaloylutepe-type vessels were found in Gabala. Such pottery, are considered to be quintessential Albanian ceramics, as they are almost never found elsewhere. They usually have a globular body, a figured lip, and an elongated and slightly elevated grooved spout that has a mesh screen at its base. Given the presence of a mesh screen at the base of these vessels, researchers suggest that they were used for brewing certain herbs and that the broth was used for medicinal, and perhaps ritual, purposes. In viticulture, this mesh screen prevented the grapes from falling into the vessel.
