Carpet Atli-Itli

Let's take a closer look at the Atli-Itli carpet from the museum's Shusha Branch collection.

The composition of these carpets is associated with the Ovchulug (Hunt) carpets, which have an ancient history. By the early 20th century, the hunting theme had disappeared from carpets giving way to animal images connected to the idea of composition.

The stylized red horse, gray dog, and other main elements of the central field are presented against the indigo background. The images of birds, horses, and dogs are attributes of the hunt. A semantic connection of filling elements with border patterns is a characteristic feature of Karabakh carpet weaving.
