The exhibition National Heritage Living in the Masterpieces of Azerbaijani Art is open in Dushanbe
On May 20, the exhibition National Heritage Living in the Masterpieces of Azerbaijani Art has opened in the National Museum of Tajikistan within the Days of Azerbaijani Culture. The exhibition showcases pile and flat woven carpets and carpet products, artistic metalwork and embroidery samples from the collection of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum covering the historical period from the 19th century to the present day.
The Gimil carpet from Guba stands out due to the density of the knots and delicate weave, the Arjiman carpet from Shirvan is distinguished by rich ornaments, the Findighan and Zili pile and flat-woven carpets are characterized by softness, intense colors, unique artistic taste and elegant patterns. The Shikhli carpet of Gazakh, the Mughan, Varni carpets of Karabakh, and the Aghajli carpet of Tabriz clearly demonstrate highly developed art and craft of the mentioned historical regions.
Along with the carpets, the exhibition also features the carpet products such as chul (a horse or camel cloth) and khurjun (a valise consisting of two parts), which were widely used in the household of the Azerbaijanis. The rhythmic patterns became decorative elements in artworks; their meanings and diverse forms show that Azerbaijani art originated before the Common Era. The patterns and calligraphic religious verses on the artistic metalwork samples made of copper such as satil (a vessel for sorbet), casket for bathhouse, sarpush (a cone-shaped cover for food), dolcha (a jug with one handle), aftafa-layan (jug and basin set for washing) made using the hammering and engraving techniques reflect the artistic and philosophical completeness of these items.
Azerbaijan in the 3rd millennium, Icherisheher, Polar Dawn and other decorative patchwork samples by prominent artist Khalida Nasirova express devotion to the national traditions and connection between the past and the future.
The carpets Shabi-Hijran and Layla and Majnun by the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Eldar Mikayilzade are inspired by the creativity of the genius Azerbaijani poet of the 16th century Muhammad Fuzuli. In both compositions divine and human love is reflected through the character of Fuzuli. The carpet Layla and Majnun also has the depictions of two famous Azerbaijanis – composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov and Sattar Bahlulzade, artist with a unique artistic style who frequently turned to unhappy love theme, sang by Fuzuli in his works.
The presented works reflect the harmony between the past and today of Azerbaijani cultural heritage.
The exhibition is on until May 23.
