Carpet Hunting Scene

Carpet Hunting Scene. Author: Mammadhuseyn Huseynov. Azerbaijan. 1995. Wool, weft - cotton, pile - wool. Inv. No 9341
The artist created this carpet on the basis of the Hunting Scene miniature. The images given in the diptych Shah Hunting (1549) by Sultan Muhammad, the founder of the Tabriz miniature school is based on A. Jami's Golden Chain manuscript. The author depicted a hunting scene from the diptych's left side on a carpet. The central field is made on the basis of the miniature, while the borders of the carpet are the author's imagination. The carpet's colors and images in the central field and borders harmoniously complement each other. The green S-shaped image of the dragon on the border symbolizes the protector of nature. Thus, the dragon does not swallow the gazelle but gives it to nature represented as a lotus flower.
