International Carpet Festival - Tbilisi / Akhaltsikhe

On July 28-July 2, the International Carpet Festival will be held by organization of the State Museum of Georgian Folk and Applied Arts, financial support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and with the joint cooperation of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, the National Committee of ICOM Azerbaijan, the National Committee of ICOM Georgia, and the HALI magazine. The festival will take place at the State Museum of Georgian Folk and Applied Arts in Tbilisi and Rabat Castle in Akhaltsikhe.
International Carpet Festival will be attended by carpet artists, weavers and experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, India and other countries.
On 28 June, the State Museum of Georgian Folk and Applied Arts will host the opening ceremony of the Carpet Products from the Collection of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum exhibition. Curator of the exhibition is PhD in Art Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, and Chairman of the ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee. The exhibition showcases 24 carpets products from the 19th-20th centuries. They were widely used as carpets in everyday life and daily lives of the population. Although carpet products were widely used by semi-nomadic people, they were common among people of city. These items were mainly made by women for their families. The exhibition will last until July 28.
It should be noted that the exhibition is one of the series of events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
On June 29-July 3, the festival will continue in Akhaltsikhe. During the festival an exhibition, sale and master classes of carpets will be held. Azerbaijani Pavilion will be organized with the support of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. Here will be fairy-exhibition of carpets and jewelry items, as well as master classes on Cheten weaving techniques by Taryer Bashirov, the carpet artist of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
