On October 25-27, the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum hosts the 3rd International Symposium Common Language of Turkic World - Patterns on the topic Intersections in Felt. Its program includes the academic sessions, thematic exhibitions, master classes, fashion show and fair exhibition. The event gathered 83 participants from 22 countries.
The symposium was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum within the support of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of the CIS (IFESCCO), and Baku Yunus Emre Institute. Information support - Central Scientific Library of ANAS, Day.az, Trend.az, Milli.az, Azernews, Felt Fashion magazine (Russia), Carpet Collector magazine (Germany), and FiltzFun magazine (Germany).
The academic sessions in four languages - Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Turkish, were organized, within the framework of the symposium. The symposium participants made presentations at the following sessions: From the History of Felt; Traditions and Modernity; Felt in Clothing and Interior; Felt in Museum Collections; Artistic and Technical Features of Felt; Felt in Contemporary Art; Felt as a Fashion Trend.
On October 25, the opening ceremony of the two thematic exhibitions Felt in Contemporary Art and Felt in Tradition were held at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. The works by artists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, and the USA were presented here.
Furthermore, the master-classes by world-famous Turkish masters were held within the framework of the symposium. A two-day master-class by Mehmet and Theresa Girgiç on Turkish Osmanli technique and a day master-class by Selçuk Gürışık on Nuno-felting took place at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
In addition, a three-day fair exhibition was held at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum during the symposium. The works by felt masters from Azerbaijan and other countries were presented here.
One of the most remarkable events of the symposium was a fashion show at the Four Seasons Baku Hotel, reflecting the use of felt art in fashion. Seven designers from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan presented their collections. The evening was full of surprises and presents. The fashion show was accompanied by the musical performance of Gaya group.
