Three carpets, woven on the sketches of Shakespeare Carpet competition winners, are being exposed at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. The competition, dedicated to the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare, the greatest representative of English and world literature, was held under the organizational activities of British Council Azerbaijan within the support of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts in 2016.
Competition winners – Telman Shikhiyev (Grand Prix), Aydan Sadikhbeyli (Special Jury Prize), and Surayya Muganli (General Category Winner). The carpets have been woven at Fatimat Aghamirzayeva’s carpet workshop in Guba on the basis of winners’ sketches.
Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum Dr. Shirin Melikova, Director of British Council for Azerbaijan Samr Shax, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy Baroness Emma Nicholson addressed the presentation ceremony of carpets.
Then, guests were acquainted with Touching History and Tradition exhibition, been presented at the Carpet Museum’s permanent exhibition since early February.
