Shirt

Dear Friends!

Today we talk about women's shirts from the museum's Textile, Clothing, Embroidery collection. Did you know that they were one of the main parts of women's traditional clothing?

Women’s outerwear includes ust koynayi (a top shirt), which had a straight cut and was sewn without a shoulder seam. It has straight, long, and wide sleeves. Sometimes, folds were placed on the sleeve from the shoulder. Under the arms, a khishtak (a gusset) was sewn in a different color. The shirt was buttoned at the neck with one button. Usually, it was made of silk, kanaus, and faille. The cut of the collar, the edges of sleeves, and the hemline were decorated using the decorative stitching. Gold or silver sequins were sewn to the edges of a top shirt.
