Yaharustu

YAHARUSTU.
A yaharustu is a pile rug in the shape of an oval that was used on a saddle.
A yaharustu with colored tassels was woven for the wealthy upon special order. It was called a
yahar uzu, yaharuzluyu or gajari in many regions of Azerbaijan. Depending on the size of the saddle, a fringed yaharustu was woven and a small part of its front side was slotted to hang it from the saddle bow. An early 20th-century yaharustu from Guba within the museum’s collection is interesting by virtue of its stylized geometric and floral motifs.
