Carpet Balig
Balig carpets, based on the Afshan composition, usually have a complex design and large size. Created by professional artists in the Middle Ages, this composition is widespread in Herat, Karabakh, and South Azerbaijan. The carpet's design is composed of intricate spirals typical of this composition and balig (fish) elements. This carpet got its name from the fish-shaped notched and non-notched islimi leaf images that form the main element of the carpet's design.
