Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Held a Presentation of the Karabakh Carpet Daryaynur Recreated for the Janis Akuraters Museum
On May 21, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum held a presentation of the carpet Daryanur from the Karabakh group, recreated for the Janis Akuraters Museum in Latvia.
Shirin Melikova, the Director of the Azerbaijan National Art Museum, Daiga Mierina, the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia, Rita Meinerte, the Director of the Association of Memorial Museums of the Republic of Latvia, and Maira Valtere, the Director of the Janis Akuraters Museum delivered speeches at the event. They marked that this joint project realised in accordance with the agreement signed between the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and the Association of Memorial Museums of the Republic of Latvia in 2023 is a contribution to the cultural relations between the two countries. They also outlined that the carpet depicted in the black and white archive photo preserved in the Janis Akuraters Museum, was analysed by the Azerbaijani and foreign experts, its material, colours and size were defined as the Daryanur carpet of the Karabakh group. This art sample, which was initially preserved in Janis Akuraters’ house, was rewoven in the Traditional Technologies Department of the ANCM.
The guests participated in the traditional ceremony of cutting the carpet off the loom, the certificates of gratitude were presented to those involved in the project.
The head of the project is the director of the Azerbaijan National Art Museum, Honored Cultural Worker Shirin Melikova.
