The Azerbaijani Carpets: Dialogue with the Nature exhibition was opened in Montenegro
On August 1, the Azerbaijani Carpet: Dialogue with the Nature exhibition was opened at the Miodrag Dado Djuric Art Gallery of the National Museum of Montenegro. The exhibition is dedicated to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Baku. 24 valuable art pieces from the collection of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum are presented. These include carpets, carpet products and sketches reflecting the rich culture, worldview, lifestyle and traditions of our people from the 18th century to modern times.
At the opening of the exhibition, the Minister of Culture and Media of the Republic of Montenegro Dr. Tamara Vujović, the Director of the National Museum of Montenegro Jakša Ćalasan, and the Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Amina Melikova welcomed the guests and spoke about Azerbaijan-Montenegro interaction, cooperation between the two institutions and the importance of the exhibition.
Flat-woven carpets varni, zili, pile carpets such as Aghajli, Shikhli, Jayirli, Alpan, as well as carpet products such as chul, heyba, mafrash and lamagabaghi are displayed within the exhibition. They are distinguished from each other by their unique artistic structure, colour harmony, delicacy and unique patterns. These exhibits produced in Shirvan, Guba, Baku, Gazakh, Karabakh and Tabriz weaving centres are rich in ambiguous elements, stylised zoomorphic and floral ornaments.
Carpets and sketches from the modern period, authored by People’s Artists Latif Karimov, Kamil Aliyev and Eldar Mikayilzade, also occupy a special place among the examples of applied art.
It should be noted that the exhibition is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and the National Museum of Montenegro.
The exhibition Azerbaijani Carpet: Dialogue with Nature will be on until August 31st.
