1st International Symposium of Common Language of the Turkic world – Patterns
On June 2-3, 2016 was held 1st International Symposium of Common Language of the Turkic world – Patterns with the joint organization of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Baku Yunus Emre Institut and the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. The aim of the symposium was to widely promote patterns throughout Turkic-speaking countries and regions, show the patterns that are jointly used by Turkic people living in remote locations and emphasize the fact that these patterns are common language in the art of Turkic world.
At the opening ceremony Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum; Fikret Babayev, Head of Cultural Institutions and Folk Art Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Nizami Jafarov, member of Milli Majlis; Ibrahim Yildirim, Director of the Baku Yunus Emre Institute; Ismayil Alper Joshkun, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan; Gunay Afandiyeva, President of Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation; Dinara Chochunbayeva, Director of Cultural Affairs Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan; Mustafa Nursoy, Deputy rector of the Ahmed Yasavi University, and Aghali İbrahimov, Secretary of the Union of Azerbaijan Artist made speeches.
Later, the guests participated at the exhibition Beauty hammered on metal in the framewok of the symposium. The exhibition of previously unpublished author sketches of Latif Karimov and artifacts of decorative and applied art belonging to Mubariz Akberov was organized on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Latif Karimov.
The Symposium’s Academic Sessions was attended by carpet experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The sessions lasted two days and during this period, 21 speakers from 6 Turkic countries (Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan), read their theses.
The speakers talked about the essence of the 1st symposium and discussed studying, promoting of common heritage, as well as carpet patterns of the Turkic-speaking people.
