Regional seminar “Jewelry Art in the Museum Space: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”

On January 25-27, 2017 with the joint organization of the National Committee of the ICOM Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, the National Committee of ICOM Georgia, and Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova, (Makhachkala, Russia) was held regional seminar Jewelry Art in the Museum Space: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

The first day of the seminar was held at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. During the academic session our country was represented by Sevil Sadikhova (Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts); Shirin Melikova, Mira Mammadkhanova and Fakhri Eyyubov (Azerbaijan Carpet Museum); Naila Rahimova (Azerbaijan National Art Museum); Mahfuza Zeynalova (National Museum of History of Azerbaijan); Farid Abdullayev (YARAT Contemporary Art Space); Rasmina Gurbatova (Founder of “Resm” Jewelry Brand). Moreover, Isolda Melikishvili (Georgian State Museum of Folk and Applied Art); Tamar Shalikadze and Isolda Dumbadze (Batumi Archaeological Museum); Ermine Magradze (Georgia National Museum); Salikhat Hamzatova and Aishat Magomedova (Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova) have lectures.

During the seminar was discussed issues on storage and security of jewelry in Museum collections; restoration and conservation of the jewelry; the interaction of contemporary jewelers with museums; the purchase by museums of contemporary jewelry in the style and technique, designated by tradition or the products of artists working outside the context of a national cultural historical past; curatorial work with jewelry collections; and museum marketing. At the end of the session, the speakers received their certificates.

On two days of seminar, the participants visited the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and its Restoration Center, Icherisheher Center of Traditional Art, “Azersuvenir” LLC, and the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan. Here they got acquainted with expositions and jewelry fund.

On January 25-27 2017, at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum was held jewelry exhibition in the framework of the regional seminar Jewelry Art in the Museum Space: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

At the exhibition were demonstrated handicrafts of jewelers from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Dagestan. Here, our country was represented by jewelers such as Mehriban Sadigova, Eduard Shamarov, Vugar Khudaverdiyev, Elchin Karimov, Islam Hazratov, Samir Misirov, Shahin Alippanahov, Jamaladdin Eyyubov, Fuzuli Seyidzadeh, Icherisheher Center of Traditional Art, and “Resm” Jewelry Brand. During the exhibition, the jewelers were given certificates.

Azerbaijani jewelry handicrafts were made in traditional and contemporary techniques. Georgian handicrafts made in the glittering enamel laid on silver, reflects the ancient traditions. Dagestan traditional jewelry was represented by jeweler Rabadan Kishev.
