Opening of the exhibitions Contemporary Art in Carpets and Flying Carpet
Our museum prepared two exhibition projects entitled Contemporary Art in Carpets and Flying Carpet to the 5th International Symposium on Azerbaijani Carpet.
The project Contemporary Art in Carpets, curated by Shirin Melikova, Director of Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, brought together the works by four famous artists, ‒ Faig Ahmed, FaridRasulov, CHINGIZ and ButunayHagverdiyev. Over the past decade, these artists successfully represented modern Azerbaijani art abroad, and exhibited in our national pavilion at the famous Venice Biennale.
Crossing project is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, and the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts in collaboration with the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Financial support was provided by Azerbaijan, the Cultural Center in Austria, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
The exhibition Flying Carpet is the final part of the Crossing project, the purpose of which is to reflect the connection between Azerbaijani and Austrian culture and artists, to strengthen the intercultural dialogue between peoples, and to exchange experiences.
The project curator is Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. The project’s art advisor is Barbara Graf, an artist and lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. They were assisted by an artist and lecturer TatiaSkhirtladze and Barbara Putz-Plecko, Dean of the Department of Textiles − Free, Applied, and Experimental Artistic Design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Five students from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts — FarajYusubov, AsmarYusubova, FirangizMejidzade, LamanHatamli and KonulJavadova, and three students from the University of Applied Arts Vienna — AfraKirchdorfer, Anka Gaya Nidzgorska, and Eva-Maria Scherl — took part in the project.
